LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th Aug, 2026) Punjab Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan on Thursday chaired an important meeting on the Suthra Punjab initiative in Kasur at the Law Department.
MD Suthra Punjab Kasur Rizwan Ashraf, CEO Health Kasur Dr Sohail Tariq, DD Labour and Welfare Kasur Saqlain Abbas and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
The participants briefed the minister on the Suthra Punjab programme, cleanliness arrangements, waste management in urban areas, sanitation and public health conditions, as well as issues faced by sanitation workers and matters relating to labour welfare.
Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan directed the authorities to make the cleanliness system under the Suthra Punjab programme more effective and coordinated. He stressed that all available resources should be utilized to provide citizens with a clean and healthy environment.
He ordered the immediate redressal of public complaints regarding sanitation and called for continuous monitoring of cleanliness operations. He directed the relevant officers to remain present in the field and made it clear that no compromise would be made on cleanliness standards.
The minister further directed that special cleanliness arrangements be ensured on main roads, in markets, residential areas, government institutions and other public places. He ordered the immediate removal of identified garbage heaps and unhygienic conditions and called for further improvement in the waste collection system.
Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan said all relevant departments must work in close coordination to translate Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of a Suthra Punjab into reality. He stressed the need to adopt modern technology and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to improve sanitation services.
Highlighting the close link between cleanliness and public health, the minister directed officials to ensure special sanitation arrangements around hospitals, Basic Health Units and other healthcare facilities.
He said maintaining a clean Punjab was not solely the government’s responsibility but a collective responsibility of all stakeholders. He called for effective public awareness campaigns to promote a culture of cleanliness and encourage citizens to play their role in keeping their surroundings clean.
