Diverse selection that includes pop, ballads, hip-hop reflects growing global reach of Pakistani music
Spotify’s editorial team has highlighted 50 Pakistani songs that it says have stood out during the first half of 2026, reflecting the changing sounds and themes of the country’s music scene.
The selection, titled “The Best Pakistani Songs of the Year So Far 2026”, includes songs ranging from pop and ballads to experimental music, reinterpretations of older classics and Pakistani hip-hop.
Among the tracks singled out by Spotify’s editors are “Khasara” by Abdul Hannan and Samar Jafri, “Har Baar” by Murtaza Qizilbash and Samar Jafri, “Tu Hai Wohi” by Asim Azhar, “Shikaar” by Talha Anjum, Talhah Yunus and Jokhay, and “Bewajah” by Hasan Raheem and Umair.
“Khasara” has been praised for approaching heartbreak through self-reflection and accountability rather than placing blame on another person.
Another track featuring Samar Jafri, “Har Baar”, sees Murtaza Qizilbash combine a slow arrangement with poetry centred on longing, vulnerability and the possibility of reunion.
Asim Azhar’s “Tu Hai Wohi” takes a different approach by revisiting the 1982 Bollywood classic of the same name.
The singer combines Urdu, Punjabi and English with contemporary R&B influences, creating a version aimed at connecting a familiar melody with a younger generation of listeners.
The list also reflects the growing international reach of Pakistani hip-hop.
“Shikaar” by Young Stunners members Talha Anjum and Talhah Yunus, alongside producer Jokhay, is highlighted for its international collaboration, lyrical wordplay and layered production.
For fans familiar with the duo’s earlier work, Spotify notes similarities in mood and style with tracks such as “Afsanay” and “Two Tone”.
Hasan Raheem and Umair’s “Bewajah” explores a relationship through the perspectives of two lovers, portraying both sides of an emotional standstill.
The song also incorporates Shina, with Hasan Raheem singing in the regional language, adding another cultural dimension to the track.
Taken together, Spotify’s selections suggest that Pakistani music in 2026 is continuing to balance personal storytelling with experimentation.
Heartbreak, love and vulnerability remain prominent themes, while artists are also drawing on poetry, regional languages, older musical influences and international collaborations.

As of December 2022, Spotify is available in most of Europe, as well as Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania, with availability in a total of 184 markets. Its users and subscribers are based largely in the United States and Europe, jointly accounting for around 53% of users and 67% of revenue. It has no presence in mainland China, where the market is dominated by QQ Music. The service is available on most devices, including Windows, macOS, and Linux computers, iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, Smart Home devices such as the Amazon Echo and Google Nest lines of products, and digital media players like Roku. As of December 2023, Spotify was the 47th most-visited website in the world with 24.78% of its traffic coming from the United States followed by Brazil with 6.51% according to data provided by Semrush. As of 2022, Spotify is the current sponsor of Spanish football club FC Barcelona, with music artists like Drake, Travis Scott, and Ed Sheeran collaborating with the club by changing their shirts into their artist logo, sometimes used for album promotions.
Unlike physical or download sales, which pay artists a fixed price per song or album sold, Spotify pays royalties based on the number of artist streams as a proportion of total songs streamed. It distributes approximately 70% of its total revenue to rights holders (often record labels), who then pay artists based on individual agreements.
