ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 19th Aug, 2026) Secretary General Developing-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8), Ambassador Sohail Mahmood on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) in Ankara.
He held discussions with SESRIC Director General, Ambassador Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk on enhancing cooperation between the two institutions.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including joint research projects, capacity-building initiatives and joint activities.
They also exchanged views on the role of statistics and data in evidence-based policymaking, as well as emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and trade.
The discussions focused on exploring practical avenues for cooperation that could contribute to the socio-economic development of countries that are members of both the D-8 and SESRIC.
The D-8 currently comprises Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Türkiye, while Azerbaijan joined the organization as its ninth member in 2025.
The two sides reaffirmed their interest in deepening institutional collaboration and leveraging their respective expertise and resources for initiatives benefiting their common member states.
