SAU Launches Independence Day Celebrations With Flag Hoisting, Seminar


HYDERABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 6th Aug, 2026) Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam launched its Independence Day 2026 celebrations with a national flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by an inaugural seminar titled “From Marka-e-Haq to Tameer-e- Pakistan: The Role of Agricultural Universities in National Development” at the University’s Senate Hall on Wednesday.

The SAU spokesperson, Gul Sher Lochi, informed on Thursday that the seminar was chaired by Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal and attended by faculty members, university officers, staff and a large number of students.

Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal said that the progress, defence and economic stability of any nation depend on modern technology, quality education and a skilled and talented youth. He emphasized that today’s young generation will lead Pakistan in the future and must therefore be equipped with knowledge, research capabilities, innovation and practical skills to address emerging national and global challenges.

He said Pakistan’s talented youth, coupled with scientific and technological advancement and the professional planning of the country’s armed forces, had demonstrated that national unity, determination and competence enable a nation to overcome even much larger adversaries.

Referring to Marka-e-Haq, he said the victory further strengthened the nation’s confidence and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and national interests.

The Vice Chancellor stressed that the next phase of Pakistan’s development requires greater investment in education, research, innovation and human capital. He noted that agriculture universities play a vital role in ensuring food security, advancing agricultural research, addressing climate change, promoting technological innovation and developing the skilled workforce essential for the country’s sustainable economic growth.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman STEP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar said the University had planned a month-long series of academic, research, cultural, environmental, social and sports activities as part of the Independence Day celebrations.

Engr. Dr. Zaheer Khan highlighted the importance of agricultural education, scientific research, modern technology and innovation in achieving Pakistan’s sustainable development goals. He said empowering young people with scientific knowledge, technical expertise and practical skills was essential for building a prosperous and resilient Pakistan.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal hoisted the national flag outside the Vice Chancellor Secretariat. Faculty members, officers, staff and students paid tribute to the national flag, and offered special prayers for Pakistan’s peace, stability, prosperity and for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defence of the nation.

Among those present on the stage were Dean Dr. Ghiasuddin Shah Rashdi, Dr. Muneer Ahmed Mangrio and Dr. Abdul Mubeen Lodhi.
