PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 3rd Aug, 2026) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed on Monday announced the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the suicide attack on Kabal Police Station, saying security agencies were actively pursuing the perpetrators and their facilitators.
During an emergency visit to Swat, the IGP first visited Saidu Sharif Central Hospital, where he met police personnel and civilians injured in Sunday’s attack.
He praised the courage of the wounded officers, assured them of the department’s full support and directed hospital authorities to provide the best available medical care.
According to police officials, the attack claimed the lives of seven police personnel and 10 civilians, while 18 police officials and nine civilians sustained injuries.
The IGP later chaired a high-level security meeting at the Regional Police Office Malakand, attended by senior police leadership, including the Additional IGP Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Regional Police Officer Malakand and District Police Officer Swat.
The meeting reviewed the security situation, progress in the investigation and measures to bring those responsible to justice.
Officials informed the meeting that forensic examination of the attacker’s remains and the motorcycle used in the attack was underway.
The IGP directed investigators to accelerate the probe through the use of advanced forensic and technological tools and ensure the identification and arrest of all facilitators.
Speaking to reporters, Zulfiqar Hameed said the suicide bomber had already been identified and further investigations were in progress to trace the network behind the attack.
He said police had anticipated possible security threats and adopted strict preventive measures, while the swift response of police personnel prevented the attacker from reaching a more crowded area, significantly limiting the scale of destruction.
He said the families of the martyred police personnel would receive the full martyrs’ compensation package and reiterated that the provincial government was continuing to strengthen the police force with modern weapons, equipment and operational resources.
The IGP said that counterterrorism operations would continue without interruption, adding that security forces would not allow terrorist groups to reorganize or threaten peace in KP.
