SIALKOT, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 2nd Aug, 2026) Polling for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly by-election in constituency LA-36 (Jammu-III) got underway on Sunday amid tight security,with voters casting their ballots at 140 polling stations across the constituency.
A total of 13 candidates were in the run for the seat,including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Sahibzada Hafiz Ahsan Raza and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) nominee Chaudhry Ahsan Ismail.
According to the Election Commission, the constituency has 99,772 registered voters,comprising 57,857 men and 41,915 women.
To facilitate the polling process,the Election Commission has established 140 polling stations,including 16 for male voters, 16 for female voters and 108 combined polling stations.
Authorities have put in place stringent security measures,with 22 polling stations declared highly sensitive,42 sensitive and 76 categorized as normal.
Polling began at 8am and will continue uninterrupted until 5pm,after which the counting of votes will begin.
