ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-August 1st, 2026) Pakistan has witnessed the highest-ever increase in liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices, with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) raising the sale price by up to $6.45 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) for July.
A notification issued by OGRA said that the LNG sale price has been substantially increased for both major gas distribution systems.
The LNG sale price on the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) system has risen to $25.83 per MMBtu, while the price on the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) system has reached $25.80 per MMBtu.
The sharp increase comes amid heightened tensions in the middle East, which have affected LNG procurement costs and global energy markets.
Despite the regional uncertainty, Pakistan has received a new LNG cargo from Qatar. However, the prevailing market conditions forced Pakistan to purchase five expensive spot LNG cargoes during July, pushing up the overall cost of imported gas.
As a result, the LNG sale price for July recorded a significant increase compared with the previous month.
The latest adjustment is expected to put additional pressure on the country’s energy costs, particularly as Pakistan continues to rely on imported LNG to meet part of its domestic and industrial gas requirements.
