RAWALPINDI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 31st, 2026) Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, on Friday said Pakistan‘s security forces would continue their counterterrorism campaign until militant groups are dismantled, declaring that terrorists must either surrender or face decisive action.
Addressing a press briefing on counterterrorism and national security, the ISPR DG said more than 40,000 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) had been carried out across the country over the past five years.
He said security forces conducted 31,000 intelligence-based operations in Balochistan and 7,177 operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the period, reflecting the scale of ongoing efforts against militant groups.
Providing an overview of this year’s security situation, Lt Gen Chaudhry said 819 people have lost their lives in terrorist attacks so far, including 303 military personnel and 322 civilians. He added that 2,084 verified militants had been killed during counterterrorism operations.
The ISPR chief said security forces have conducted an average of 194 operations daily, resulting in the elimination of approximately 10 militants each day. He also stated that 28 suicide attacks had taken place this year.
Referring to recent security incidents, Lt Gen Chaudhry alleged that Afghan nationals were involved in several attacks, including those in Tank and Karachi. He further accused the Taliban-led administration in Afghanistan of supporting terrorist groups operating against Pakistan.
On the security situation in Balochistan, the military spokesperson rejected claims that the province was spiralling into instability, describing such narratives as deliberate propaganda. He said there was no room for negotiations with terrorists, who must either surrender in accordance with the law or face military action.
Lt Gen Chaudhry also criticized what he described as entrenched elite interests and tribal leaders for obstructing development in Balochistan. He said the state would engage directly with the people of the province rather than those seeking to preserve the existing power structure.
Emphasizing the rule of law, the ISPR chief said Pakistan‘s Constitution applies equally to all citizens. He added that a strong state is one governed by constitutional and legal principles, stressing that national institutions remain committed to protecting the country’s security and sovereignty.
