KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 30th Jul, 2026) Sindh Senior Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Thursday gave the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) a 15-day deadline to identify illegal constructions and complete scrutiny of records, warning that any official found involved in or negligent towards unauthorized buildings after the grace period would face immediate disciplinary action.
Chairing a high-level meeting of the SBCA attended by the Additional Chief Secretary Local Government and senior officials, the minister reviewed illegal constructions, dangerous buildings, the authority’s performance, public facilitation, the One Window Operation and coordination among relevant departments.
Shah said the Sindh Government would continue indiscriminate action against illegal constructions and not tolerate negligence at any level. He directed the Director General SBCA to initiate prompt and impartial action against any officer found facilitating illegal construction or failing to perform assigned responsibilities after the 15-day period.
The minister ordered the modernization of SBCA’s monitoring and intelligence system, introduction of daily surveillance reports and establishment of dedicated demolition teams in coordination with district administrations and law enforcement agencies to curb unauthorized construction at an early stage.
He said Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had directed the government to make the One Window Operation more transparent, efficient and citizen-friendly to facilitate timely approval of building plans, no-objection certificates (NOCs) and other legal requirements. He also instructed the authority to establish an effective town-level service network and ensure courteous and transparent public dealing.
Shah further directed officials to strengthen the SBCA’s legal wing, enhance coordination with the Karachi Development Authority (KDA), the Master Plan Department and other relevant agencies, and prioritize action on dangerous buildings, including arrangements for temporary accommodation of affected families where required.
He said protecting human lives remained the Sindh Government’s top priority, adding that reforms introduced in the proposed local government laws would make the SBCA more transparent, accountable and effective in delivering municipal services.
The minister directed all concerned officers to immediately implement the decisions taken during the meeting and submit regular progress reports to ensure effective enforcement against illegal constructions and protection of citizens’ lives and property.
