RAWALPINDI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 29th Jul, 2026) The Suthra Punjab Agency (SPA) Rawalpindi has intensified a city-wide drain desilting campaign under the “Suthra Punjab” initiative to minimise the risk of urban flooding and ensure smooth drainage during the monsoon season.
Launched on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the operation was underway in various union councils of Rawalpindi, where sanitation teams were removing silt, solid waste, plastic bags and other obstructions from drains to facilitate the uninterrupted flow of rainwater.
The removed debris was being shifted immediately to designated disposal sites to keep the drainage system fully operational.
Managing Director SPA and Chief Executive Officer of the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), Rana Sajid Safdar, said the agency was effectively implementing the provincial government’s monsoon emergency plan.
He said dedicated teams and heavy machinery had been deployed at sensitive locations across the city, while field staff remained on alert round the clock to ensure uninterrupted drainage and provide timely relief to residents during the rainy season.
He appealed to citizens not to dump household waste or construction debris into drains and to cooperate with the agency in maintaining cleanliness so that the drainage system continued to function efficiently throughout the monsoon.
