PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 15th Jun, 2026) Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah chaired a meeting on monsoon preparedness, wildfire and urban fire prevention and summer priorities here at Civil Secretariat on Monday.

The Chief Secretary was briefed that all districts are fully prepared for the monsoon season. Tehsil-level plans have been reviewed and updated across the province. Shelter sites have been identified and vulnerable areas have been mapped.

Evacuation routes have been finalized and mock drills have been conducted to test emergency response. Desilting of waterways and urban nullahs is currently underway to mitigate the risk of urban flooding, while inspection of vulnerable roads and bridges has also been completed to ensure safe connectivity during the season.

For summer health and public safety, a special summer plan has been approved. Arrangements for heatstroke management have been put in place, including the establishment of heatwave prevention camps and ensuring the availability of essential medicines.

Private swimming pools have been mapped for safety compliance, and annual maintenance of schools is being carried out during summer vacations.

Rescue 1122 ambulances have been deployed at key tourist spots and river rescue operations have been placed on standby. In addition, mobile health units and EPI bikes have been positioned in areas with high tourist influx to provide immediate medical support to visitors.

Regarding wildfire and urban fire prevention, comprehensive measures for fire prevention, preparedness, and response have been activated in view of heatwave conditions.

Village Defence Committees have been constituted in all fire-prone areas, and risk area mapping has been completed. Public awareness campaigns are being conducted with the active engagement of traders on fire safety, and identification as well as fixation of hazardous electrical spots is in progress to minimize fire risks.

The Chief Secretary directed all line departments, district administrations and other relevant institutions remain on high alert and ensure effective inter-departmental coordination during the summer and monsoon season.

He stressed that under a good governance roadmap, proactive public awareness, timely response and the protection of lives and property remain the top priorities of the provincial government.
